The Search...

Baffled, you must be wondering, "What are you searching for Farid?" Well, I'll eventually get to explaining about that. There comes a certain time in any person's life, where the person will likely feel the need for something extra in life, that little extra something, interestingly, at the instant you reach a certain stage in life. And this has also forced me to even move out of being even more of a kid and start acting a little bit more like an adult, struggling at that though. The verified real world problem is, eventually life moves forward, and as that happens, a lot more effective choices appear for you to choose.

Increasingly important to put pictures in my blog, just to keep things a lot more interesting, nice, tad bit more interesting, hm? Muahahaha~

A lot more things to take into account. So I began reading up articles online, some about literally what you should be looking for, what you should consider to accept or not, and also lots of other things to take into account. Yes, it has come to that time for a person, to acquire an important item they call the LAPTOP!! Muahahahaha!! What were you thinking when you had read the title?

So yeah, at first it was rather simple for me, I didn't know much about picking a laptop or a computer in any sense, and when I visited the PC fair in KL, I began looking at the options given by all the different companies, the major companies such as Acer, or Asus. And then as I looked through, I thought to myself, "this looks good, hmm, this one looks reasonable too, wait, maybe this one" and soon like any other gamer would, I took a peek at the gaming laptops that were offered by different companies. And for the first time throughout my life, I wondered what made them suitable for gaming? I never really paid any attention to these things, I didn't really have the need to anyway. So, it was from that moment on that I started reading articles and websites about processors, graphic cards, different companies, and I was confused. But I really thank all the people who took their time in finding details which I wanted to know, well I'll be honest, mostly about playing games. I thank all those who wrote for websites I spent hours on reading about different laptops, like PCMag, Notebook Check, CNET Asia and many others, I read them so long ago I forgot the others.

My first question was which company should I pick? I tried my best to read many different reviews from different websites, and amazingly, no 2 websites gave the exact same pros and cons. And I know its almost impossible for 2 sites to have the exact same ones, but in certain fields like design, or performance, I was expecting it to be more similar but some didn't. For example I had my eye of one of Acer's ultrabooks, the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG, but some reviews gave it very positive reviews, praising its performance for price, and that the keyboard flexes a little but is fairly sturdy, while others don't recommend it at all, sayings the complete opposite.

Well, at the very first I just looked for a laptop that could play Starcraft 2 on medium settings, but as checked the configurations of laptops I found out that the numbering on the graphic cards affected the performance too! Yeah, I knew that little about laptops before this... So I started reading up about graphic cards. I paid more attention to Nvidia graphic cards, why? Cause its just my personal preference. So anyway, after spending a lot of time on Notebook Check, since it displays almost all the graphic cards on laptops and the respective frame rates on playing certain games, I knew what to look for.

This also helped a lot when I went with my cousin to Lowyat and browsed around at the different laptops available. It shows how the salesperson at the shops tell you very little about the stuff you want to buy, and also a certain few that know very little about computers themselves.

A few weeks passed and I opted for a stronger laptop, most being well over the budget which my parents have set for me, but I thought about having the laptop last me for at more than 3 years, maybe 5 at max. Currently I am still uncertain on which brand to get, since the mixed reviews on many laptops which I chose to be the potential one. So yeah, I picked a few laptops from many different brands, but I didn't really take into account any from Lenovo, Dell, HP or Sony, cause none of them really appealed to me in terms of design. Also I have that special need for lappies with a numpad...

Some Laptops added to my list :

Asus A53SM

Acer Aspire V3-571G

Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG

Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M5-581TG

Asus N55SL

Toshiba Satellite P850

Toshiba Qosmio X770

The above laptops are what I have considered, but also looking forward to the selection next year, seeing if anything better pops out. But I am hoping to get the Qosmio, it looks cool and good specs as well. Cya!!
